We’re wrapping up our Roots of the Market awards with a truly special tribute—to a family whose legacy has been lovingly baked into the heart of the Market for nearly 50 years: The Straus Family of Country Style Products & Perogie Palace.

It all began with Teressa, whose journey in Farmers’ Markets started at just 16, selling cookies and pies. After marrying Ken and raising five children on their Wellesley farm, Teressa joined the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market in 1977 as an outdoor vendor.

When the Market’s original building opened in 1987, she was among the first to move inside—and not long after, she launched the now-legendary Perogie Palace. 👑🥟
Today, what started in a 30x50 foot bake shop that Ken built for Teressa is still going strong—same shop, same handmade dough, same unwritten recipes—and now employs all five of their children and their families. On most Saturdays, you’ll find their 27 grandchildren running the booths with the same heart and hustle.

From pies and pastries to perogies and generations of joyful service, the Straus family embodies everything we cherish about this community: tradition, family, and handmade goodness.
Please join us in congratulating the entire Straus Family—a true Market institution.
